Kitchenly Privacy Policy Last updated: June 15, 2026
Kitchenly does not collect, store, or sell any personal data. All pantry, grocery, and recipe data is stored locally on your device and synced through your own iCloud account — Kitchenly never sees it.
AI features use third-party API keys that you provide and store locally on your device. Requests go directly from your device to the AI provider (Anthropic, Groq, or Google) — they are never routed through Kitchenly servers.
The microphone is used only when you speak to the AI assistant. Audio is processed on-device by iOS speech recognition and is not recorded or transmitted by Kitchenly.
The camera is used only when you choose to scan a barcode or take a photo of a food item.
Kitchenly does not operate its own servers and does not collect, receive, or store your personal data. Your pantry, recipes, grocery list, and family preferences are stored on your device and synced across your own devices through your private iCloud account. The developer has no access to this data.
AI Features (Optional) Kitchenly includes optional AI-powered features such as the chat assistant, photo identification, recipe generation, and meal planning. These features are turned off by default. They only work if you choose to enable them by entering your own API key for an AI provider of your choice in Settings. You may use one of the following providers:
When you use an AI feature, the information needed for that request is sent directly from your device to the provider you selected, authenticated with your own API key, solely to fulfill that request. Depending on the feature you use, this may include item names and details you have entered (such as categories, quantities, storage location, and expiration dates), your grocery list, text you type into the assistant, food-preference profiles you create (including member names, likes, dislikes, allergies, and dietary notes), and photos you choose to capture or select (such as food items, your fridge or shelf, recipe cards, receipts, and finished dishes). If you do not enter an API key, no data is sent to any AI provider. You can remove your key at any time to disable all AI processing. Your use of an AI provider is governed by that provider's own privacy policy, linked above.
Barcode Lookup When you scan a product barcode, the barcode number is sent to Open Food Facts (https://world.openfoodfacts.org/) to retrieve product information. No personal data is included in this request.
Weather-Aware Suggestions If you grant location permission, Kitchenly may send your approximate location to Open-Meteo (https://open-meteo.com/) to provide weather-aware meal suggestions. Location is used only for this purpose and is not shared with the AI providers. This feature is optional and does not function if you decline location access.
Data Control Because your data lives in your own device and iCloud account, you remain in control of it. You can delete items, clear your data, or remove any API key directly within the app at any time.
